Note: This is an off-topic subject matter that has got no connection with Bérengèr Saunière and Rennes-le-Château.

Okay, so there are Biblical Scholars who overlook the obvious. Like for example thinking heavily if Jesus Christ was married (missing the simple basic fact that he is represented as Incarnate God, not requiring reproduction – and not as an ordinary Human Being who requires reproduction).

Here are some articles by French scholar, Thierry Murcia:

Mary of Magdala: The Mother of Jesus?
Was Jesus a “rabbi”? Was Jesus married?
Mary Magdalene pregnant In The Basilica of Saint Rémi In Reims (conclusion)

Thierry Murcia mentions the Gospel of Philip (Nag Hammadi Library, Codex 2:3), and the much quoted “As for the Wisdom who is called "the barren," she is the mother of the angels. And the companion of the [...] Mary Magdalene. [...] loved her more than all the disciples, and used to kiss her often on her mouth.”

The Magdalene described symbolically as “Wisdom, who is called barren, she is the mother of the angels” – therefore it would make perfect common sense for Jesus Christ, Incarnate God, to kiss Mary Magdalene on the mouth within this context.

There are a few more quotes:

Gospel of Thomas

(Saying 114)

(1) Simon Peter said to them: “Let Mary go away from us, for women are not worthy of life.”
(2) Jesus said: “Look, I will draw her in so as to make her male, so that she too may become a living male spirit, similar to you.”
(3) (But I say to you): “Every woman who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of heaven.”

And also this quote:

The Greek Gospel of the Egyptians

The Gospel opens with Salome addressing Jesus. She asks, “How long will people die?”
Jesus responds: “So long as women bear children.”
A later comment by Jesus, also spoken to Salome, is: “I have come to destroy the works of the female.”

Note the absence of these quotes by the “danbrownies”.

But what is the source of the “information” found in The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail (1982) that Dualists like the Gnostics and the Cathars considered “Jesus Christ to be a mere prophet like any other” – could this misguided nonsense have originated from Robert Ambelain and not from the ancient sources on Christianity?
