Pseudo-Historian Christian Doumergue has been around now for a few decades, spreading his simple-minded nonsense about Pierre Plantard and Bèrenger Saunière – all of it being laughable throwaway nonsense fit only for the waste disposable basket! I wonder how many of his past University friends take his nonsense seriously? According to the French Wikipedia he’s got a Master’s Degree in Art History and Archaeology, whose observations about his “specialist subject matters” cannot be taken seriously because the nature of the lack of depth of his researches are so shallow, and Television in France cannot be that strict about accepting Pseudo-History! His first book on French Wikipedia is listed as being “Rennes-le-Château, le grand héritage” (Lacour, Nîmes, 1997).

Doumergue has also been former chief of the “Saunière Museum” following the retirement of Antoine Captier and Claire Corbu in that capacity, where he decided to make Pierre Plantard the “central” area within the “mystery” of Rennes-le-Château. This only [reportedly] attracted the criticism of the French Jewish Community in France (the French Jewish Defence League). [1] [2] [3]

When the Saunière Museum first opened in 1983, I only heard from a witness that Pierre Plantard attended the Opening Ceremony and stuck next to Antoine Captier like superglue. Captier did not want to have anything to do with Plantard and he did not have the slightest interest in the Priory of Sion or in the “parchments” that appeared in Gérard de Sède’s 1967 book.

Doumerge has spent his time also focusing on Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ, having first cobbled theories in his books “Le Mystère Marie-Madeleine” (Thélès, Paris, 2006) and “La Tombe perdue: le corps du Christ repose-t-il dans le Sud de la France?” (Éditeur Pardès, Grez-sur-Loing, 2008). His knowledge on these subjects is rudimentary to say the very least. He reassures us that both Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ were historical figures (without any historical provenance). His stance may be considered as traditional with a bit of pseudo-historical spice thrown in for good measure. To put things into context, André Galaup (1938-2021) previously stated on his website that Doumergue was far from being his favourite author and he did not have a single book of his in his library.

The conclusion? Christian Doumergue is yet another shallow Rennes-le-Château conspiracy theorist also delving into Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene based upon the past popularity of books like “The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail” (Jonathan Cape, 1982) and “The Da Vinci Code” (Doubleday, 2003).
