Rennes-le-Château is a small village in the south of France, located in the Aude department. It is known for its mysterious history and legendary treasure. In the 19th century, the village priest, Bérenger Saunière, began to renovate the church and the presbytery. He spent considerable sums on this work, which attracted the attention of the ecclesiastical authorities and the inhabitants of the village. Saunière claims to have found a hidden treasure in the church. He bought land and built a new house, the Château de Blanchefort [Doumergue's mistake, he obviously means the Villa Bethanie]. He led a luxurious life and frequented influential figures, including the Count of Chambord, a pretender descended from King Henry IV.

Saunière's death in 1917 left the village shrouded in mystery. Rumors about the treasure are multiplying and attracting researchers from all over the world. Over the years, many theories have been put forward about the origin of the treasure. Some think it is a Templar treasure, others a Cathar treasure, or even a treasure linked to the French royal family. But the treasure of Rennes-le-Château was never found. The mystery remains and continues to fascinate the whole world.

In this conference, Christian Doumergue, specialist in the history of Rennes-le-Château, will return to the different theories that have been put forward about the treasure and the mystery that surrounds it. He will also present the latest discoveries that have been made on this subject.

This conference is an opportunity to discover one of the most fascinating enigmas in history.
