THE SILLY SEASON has suddenly arrived – the time when conferences, lectures, and Tourist schedules appear in the village of Rennes-le-Château – where silly people addicted to childish stories of Abbé Bérenger Saunière suddenly appear out of nowhere and they all take the greatest of pride in sharing with us all their puerile gullibilities. It’s always more-or-less the same old story that has existed for the last 70 years. It’s an excellent way of attracting tourists into the area and therefore generating wealth for the local commune of Rennes-le-Château – its stories (full of wonders and lies) has become the principal reason for its existence.

It would be quite wrong to describe all aficionados of the Rennes-le-Château “enigma” as being only simple-minded believers. There are – for example – those who may also enjoy writing fictional novels that incorporate elements found in the various Rennes-le-Chateau fantasies mixed together with the Cthulhu Mythos of H. P. Lovecraft. For example, “Le Meurtre de l'Abbé S'Nière”, authored by “Morris Leblanc” (prefaced by Christian Doumergue & Tony Baillargeat); published by Éditions Arqa, 2023. The Lovecraftian influence would be a reference to their admiration of Philippe Marlin. Their beliefs in the Rennes-le-Chateau fantasies would therefore also run riot into overt fictions.
