Luc Ribeyrol & “Underground Passages”

(Or imaginations of the mind)

Quoting Luc Ribeyrol: “The most probable version of this mystery (Rennes-le-Château) based on concrete facts” …“been following the curious story of Abbé Sauniére for many years”… “For sceptics I am available to come to Rennes-le-Château to be tested”.

But Luc Ribeyrol – just like any other believer – cannot be tested! Belief is a faith that exists outside the bounds of testing!!

Luc Ribeyrol can explore cavity research, underground tunnels, caves, lost buildings, tombs and lost cemeteries – and he won’t find anything in the future just like he hasn’t found anything in the past. Luc Ribeyrol can be described as just another lost soul among the vast throng of thousands and thousands of believers who do not live in the real world. He merely represents another statistic to be ignored by DRAC.

Of course, people like Luc Ribeyrol will only be too welcome in the village of Rennes-le-Château in the hope of attracting more financial wealth from tourists! He represents another cog in the machine of wealth creation within this context! Rennes-le-Château generates wealth in 2025 just like it did from Abbé Saunière in 1898 – but for entirely different reasons!

Ultimately, this is what Rennes-le-Château has now become, is a haven for fantasists and dreamers. Noël Corbu let the genie out of the bottle during the mid-1950s and believers have been making-up their own stories about Rennes-le-Château ever since. This is a never-ending process that requires they get their regular fixes. The more that theories and fantasies are generated – the better.

I visited Rennes-le-Château during the 1990s and have witnessed the inhabitants of the village smile over the “sound and fury, signifying nothing” and how they have coped how to live with it over the decades.
