The so-called “Mystery” of Rennes-le-Château 1955-2026 has only ever been a delusion and not a “historical reality” – since its beginning during the mid-1950s following its invention by Noël Corbu, after the death of Marie Dénarnaud on 29 January 1953 – the former housekeeper of Abbé François-Bérenger Saunière, 1852-1917, the former priest of the church of Saint Mary Magdalene 1885-1909 – until he was defrocked by the Bishopric of Carcassonne over irregular priestly activities, for conducting priestly duties and practices without obtaining the prior permission of his local Bishopric. It has never been recognised as a “historical mystery” but rather as a tourist-gimmick and a source of revenue for the commune of the village of Rennes-le-Château – its story will never be recognised by any official educational establishment – nor has it ever been taken seriously by the French Ministry of Culture nor by its extension commonly known under its acronym DRAC (“Direction Régionale des Affaires Culturelles”, or Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs in France, translated into English).

Its current main protagonists include the couple Claire Corbu-Captier and Antoine Captier, who have just republished their 1985 book “L'Héritage de l'abbé Saunière” (published by Éditions Pégase). The other main protagonists include Michel Vallet, Christian Doumergue, Patrick Mensior, Philippe Marlin, Johan Netchacovitch. The only “Treasure Trove of Rennes-le-Château” happens to be the constant slop produced by what can be suitably termed bad pseudo-history – lacking any backbone to justify the various claims and arguments (that are often quite risible and laughable).
