Rennes-le-Château: MONEY TALKS!
19 August 2024
It doesn't matter how stupid it is, the “mystery” and “treasure” of Rennes-le-Château has become a Tourist Attraction and therefore a major source of financial revenue for the local authority – and that is why newspapers like La Dépêche du Midi and L'Indépendant TODAY cover the story positively.
During the mid-1960s, when the story had not yet been established, the local press could batter and dissect the story for what it was – a local absurdity that was only fit to be scoffed and laughed at – including by journals like Mémoires de la Société des Arts et Sciences de Carcassonne.
During the 19th century, it was all about selling masses that made the village of Rennes-le-Château popular. Today it is a Tourist Attraction thanks to only one man, Noël Corbu during the mid-1950s, who made a myth out of Abbé Bérenger Saunière and who did not live long enough to see Rennes-le-Château achieve its current popularity.
The old saying: MONEY TALKS!
