The “Forgotten” Burial Crypt of the Church of Rennes-le-Château?
Not quite. This myth dates back to the 1950s and the church was excavated in 1959.
Instead of excavating the burial crypt of the church of Rennes-le-Château for the source of Abbé Saunière's wealth, it would be more advisable to excavate Abbé Saunière's correspondence and his notebooks, that yield the solution to this “mystery”, explaining the reasons why Abbé Saunière was summoned to an ecclesiastical trial 1910-1911, why Abbé Saunière was subsequently stripped of his priesthood and why Abbé Saunière put his domain up for sale. These latter points explain the entire subject matter of Abbé Saunière at Rennes-le-Château 1898-1911.
Furthermore, interested parties believing in mysterious goings-on at Rennes-le-Château begged the regional section of the National Archeological Body of France (DRAC) to excavate the church in 2013 (the Mayor of Rennes-le-Château and Paul Saussez). The request was unsuccessful. Apparently DRAC does not take the “mystery” seriously.
The entire subject matter is consigned to be pseudo-history – alongside Ancient Aliens, Flying Saucers, Atlantis, Bigfoot, The Bermuda Triangle and many more similar subject matters that fill the shelves of Mind, Body & Spirit in Libraries and Bookshops.
