Knights Templar at Bézu – A Modern Myth

10.10.2026

The “Château des Templiers” only began appearing on French Maps for Bézu during the mid-1960s. Just another “Henry Lincoln Type of Rumour” – just like saying that Bernard de Blanquefort was the same person as Bertrand de Blanchefort, the fifth Grand Master of the Knights Templar 1156-1169, who really came from the Bordeaux region of France (again, it was Gérard de Sède who started this myth going, with Henry Lincoln repeating it, right up to his very last book).

The site of the Château de Bézu (Château d'Albedun) is a ruined medieval castle (also called Les Tipliers or the castle of Bernard Sermon d'Albedun). It was primarily a Cathar stronghold and a noble family residence during the 12th and 13th centuries, playing a role in the Albigensian Crusade. Also, it's only romantics, not disciplined historians, who claim there was interaction between the Knights Templar and the Cathars.
