It was suggested by Gérard de Sède in L’Or de Rennes that Abbé Gau acted as an intermediary between Marie Dénarnaud and the Carcassonne bishopric when the latter tried to take Saunière’s estate from her in 1945 (pages 193-194).
Albert Gau, engaged in Resistance activities against the Vichy regime during World War II (later honored by the State of Israel); he became a Republican politician, being a member of the Mouvement républicain populaire (member of the National Assembly 1945-1955). Ordained a priest in 1951.
Albert Gau was recipient of two medals: Combattants Volontaires de la Résistance (Cross of the resistance volunteer combatant) and Juste parmi les nations (Righteous Among the Nations).
