It was only by the power of modesty, self-restraint and sexual chastity that Jesus Christ was able to enter the world – and likewise could only return to His Father’s Kingdom by a woman who decided to abandon all sex to live a life of sexual chastity.

Of course such stories were obvious myths and were not literally factual, they merely represented religious beliefs and philosophical axioms (that horrified traditional Jews who rejected them).

The Birth: Athena did not have a traditional biological mother. Her father, Zeus, swallowed her mother, Metis, while Metis was pregnant. Athena was later born fully formed and armored directly from Zeus's forehead. The Life: She is famously known as Athena Parthenos (Athena the Virgin). She rejected all romantic and sexual advances, dedicating herself entirely to wisdom, strategy, and warfare.

While the standard Venus (and her Greek counterpart, Aphrodite) is famous for her unbridled, joyful, and highly active sexual life with both gods and mortals, the Romans established a specific cult to her under the epithet Verticordia, which translates to “The Changer of Hearts” or “Heart-Turner”. In this specific religious role, the traditionally sensual goddess actively chose to redirect her immense sexual power toward sexual chastity, modesty, and virtue (pudicitia).
