STATUTES

OF THE

ALPHA-GALATES

A Grand Order of Chivalry

27 December 1937

(Submitted to the Prefecture de Police)

ARTICLE 1.

– There is hereby formed between the adherents of the present statutes a "Grand Order of Chivalry", under the name ALPHA GALATES.

Its headquarters, known as the Arche Centrale (Central Arch), are situated in Paris (17th arrondissement), at rue Lebouteux 10. Its headquarters can, however, be moved anywhere else by decision of the Governor-General.

Arches can be created in the provinces.

The Order has been founded for an unlimited period.

ARTICLE 2.

– The aim of the Order is to unite its members in mutual and national assistance, to perfect their knowledge, to encourage their aspirations in an aesthetic direction, and to inculcate in them a chivalric ideal based on their willingness to conform to the requirements of honour and to serve on behalf of the Fatherland.

As a consequence the Order will encourage:

1. Study circles and conferences;

2. Recreational, cinematographic and musical gatherings;

3. Meetings devoted to physical education, gymnastics and sport;

4. Institutions such as camping sites, rest homes and dispensaries, with the aim of promoting the health of its members;

5. Works of charity, such as visits to the sick, helping the needy, adopting abandoned children or orphans;

6. The creation of a Popular Secretariat.

ARTICLE 3.

– In order to become a member of the Order a person must:

1. Be over the age of 18;

2. Adhere to the present statutes;

3. Be introduced by two members of the Order;

4. Complete an application form;

5. Provide a certificate of domicile and three ID photographs;

6. Be approved by the Governor-General;

7. Pay an annual subscription varying according to the generosity of the person concerned, but with a minimum of 50 francs.

The members have a choice, when entering the Order, of two categories:

  1. "the Legion", entrusted with maintaining the Order’s security, looking after its interests and realising its aspirations;
  2. "the Phalange", entrusted with the tasks of preserving the store of acquired knowledge, devoting itself to philosophical researches and instructing the future knights of the Order.

ARTICLE 4.

– The Order consists of three subdivisions: the Temple, the City and the Arches.

  1. The mission of the Temple is to reward the knights who have faithfully followed the path of the Order, something which will enable a simple member of an Arch to become a high dignitary in the Temple.
  2. The Temple is composed of nine degrees, namely:
    1 Frère (Brother) F. Orangey red
    2 Respectable Frère (Respected Brother) R.F. Red
    3 Très Révérend Frère (Very Reverend Brother) T.R.F. Violet
    4 Très Honorable Frère (Very Honorable Brother) T.H.F. Green
    5 Très Vénérale Frère (Very Venerable Brother) T.V.F. Indigo
    6 Très Illustre Frère (Very Illustrious Brother) T.I.F. Yellow
    7 Son Excellence Druidique (His Druidic Excellency) S.E.D. Blue
    8 Son Altesse Druidique (His Druidic Highness) S.A.D. White
    9 Sa Majesté Druidique (His Druidic Majesty) S.M.D. Gold

    His Druidic Majesty does not necessarily have to be the Governor-General. His title merely implies a high degree of dignity, not a post.

  3. The mission of the City is to teach the members the doctrines of the Order and to inculcate in them the principles of their task, which activity can be summarised in two terms: Knowledge of the ideal and the Love of fighting for this ideal.
  4. It has three degrees: Neophytes, Disciples and Apostles.
  5. The mission of the Arches is to accomplish the work of mutual assistance within the Order and to disseminate its doctrine. Each Arch is directed by a Governor and six Commanders, namely: a Secretary-General, a Treasurer, a Propaganda Secretary, a Press Secretary, a Security Secretary and a Discipline Secretary.

The members of the Arches are divided into two categories: Knights and Aspirants.

The members of the Arches meet each week at the summons of their respective Governors.

ARTICLE 5.

-A) The Governor-General has absolute authority; he appoints and revokes the membership of the members of the Order. They are answerable only to him.

He exercises regulatory powers, issues decrees and ensures their implementation.

Messengers of the various orders that are issued are accredited to him. He also negotiates and ratifies external agreements

-B) If, for any reason, the Governor-General is prevented from exercising his responsibilities he can designate a member of the Order to replace him.

In the case of non-designation or impediment he will be replaced by a member of the Order to be elected by the Temple by a majority of seven votes.

ARTICLE 6.

– The Temple will meet as a high court of justice when it is entrusted by the Governor-General with the task of judging those of its members, of whatsoever degree, who are accused of having committed offences in the exercise of or with respect to their functions, or of having betrayed the duties entrusted to them, as well as any co-author or accomplice of the members as aforementioned.

A fine can be imposed on the member and, in serious cases, demotion and even expulsion can be required by the High Court.

ARTICLE 7.

– The Order is rigorously closed to Jews and to any member who is recognised as belonging to a Judaeo-Masonic order.

The discussion of any political question within the Order is formally forbidden.
