Letter from Henry Lincoln dated 20 July 1985

Note in reference to Henry Lincoln’s letter below:

The French poet Jehan l’Ascuiz never existed and the reference to "Professor Hugh Payne" is simply a spoof on the name of Hugues de Payen, the first Grand Master of the Knights Templar.

(Douglas Carpenter was a journalist living in Australia at the time that Henry Lincoln wrote to him below. Paul Smith had previously got to know Douglas Carpenter through Lionel Fanthorpe.)
