On page 76 in Mythologie du Trésor de Rennes (1974), René Descadeillas wondered how it came about that Abbé Courtauly’s name was dragged into the rubbish history of Rennes-le-Château and Rennes-les-Bains (when reviewing the Priory of Sion document Pierres gravées du Languedoc).
Descadeillas avoided mentioning Pierre Plantard’s name – although he did call him a maniac and a paranoiac – the author of the Lobineau papers – who inserted his name into the lineage of Dagobert II.
René Descadeillas mentioned that Plantard first visited Rennes-le-Château and Rennes-les-Bains during the late 1950s, although this was clearly hearsay evidence on his part and not demonstrable evidence.
No-one to date has supplied any proof that Pierre Plantard knew about Rennes-le-Château before the early 1960s.
