An Historical Notice of The Order states about the Knights Templar:

“The Scottish line of descent, which we maintain to be the only authentic branch of the Order in existence, commences with Walter de Clifton, Grand Preceptor of Scotland in the year 1309, and afterwards Grand Master” (page v).
