Abbé Saunière's accounts 1891-1892 (his "secret funds"), demonstrating his life of poverty during the period of time when according to claims from the 1950s he allegedly discovered a treasure and was immensely wealthy.
These are the real facts: Abbé Saunière did not replace the Main Altar in his church in 1891 but on 27 July 1887 for the sum of 600 Francs from the firm of FD Monna of Toulouse (and this was a donation from Mme Marie Cavailhé). The bill for the Stained-Glass Windows, which Abbé Saunière purchased in the same year for 1,350 Francs from the firm of Henri Feur in Bordeaux, was not settled until 1900. |
